While preparing for another Monday morning and watching Good Morning America, my daily routine was a bit disrupted when I heard the headline: “Mom shoots her teen son and daughter at point-blank range because they were too mouthy!”
I immediately stopped what I was doing and listened attentively!
Mrs. Julie Scheneker, a 50-year-old military officer’s wife, was arrested on Friday and admitted that she shot her 13-year-old son and 16-year-old daughter at point-blank range for being too “mouthy!”
Mrs. Scheneker was reported to the authorities a few months ago by Calyx, her daughter, for slapping her with an open hand fist. Calyx father admitted that he had become the referee between the mom and the bickering teens. However, it is clear the dad didn’t see the heated arguments between the mom and children escalating to this point. No one did!
As a parent of a teenage son, I can definitely relate to the frustration that Mrs. Scheneker may have felt while disciplining her teenagers. Often times, our advice becomes ridiculous mumbo jumbo that gets lost inside of the child’s head and quickly ignored. But there’s nothing in my human spirit that would ever allow my frustration to get to this point. I’m sure Mrs. Scheneker may have some type of undiagnosed mental illness that drove her to this brutal point. She was even reported to say that she brought them in and she can take them out! Wow, talk about taking things too literal!
I pray for all involved in this situation and I hope that the family can heal from some such a horrific event!
